Newsmaker: News recommendations for lung cancer screening

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Detecting cancer early on is especially important, and new recommendations are in place for people at risk of lung cancer.

Dr. Denis Gilmore, a thoracic surgeon at TriStar Centennial Medical Center, joined News 2 at 11 over the phone to discuss the new recommendations.

“The new recommendations are to increase [screening] to people that are aged 50-80 years old, which is different from before where it was 55 to 77, and then also decrease the packs you’re smoking from 30 down to 20,” Dr. Gilmore said.
