A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Thursday morning for rain that could be heavy at times, especially in the Tennessee counties near the Alabama border. In that time period 2-3″ could fall. And that is just “Round #1. Additional rounds of rain could culminate in 4-6” over a 7 day period.
It is important to understand that with the ground saturated, runoff of the rainfall is almost instantaneous and flooding could occur with a smaller amount of rain than normal. The picture below is from Sunday’s rainfall which totaled only about an inch and a third but still had a dramatic impact.
After a dry Wednesday night and Thursday, the next round should begin Thursday night and Friday, followed by a third round of rain on Saturday that could also produce severe weather as well as heavy downpours.
