NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – NEW YEAR’S EVE: Late Friday night into early Saturday morning the Storm Prediction Center has put a Slight Risk (level 2/5) for areas north and west of Nashville and a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) for areas south and east of Nashville to see strong to severe storms. Rain arrives around 7, then storms around 10pm.

We are expecting all modes of severe weather. Main threats include damaging wind and heavy rain. Hail and tornado threat is low, but not zero. 2-3 inches of rain is expected in few communities. In fact, all of Southern KY and much of Middle TN are already under a Flood Watch starting Friday evening through Saturday.

NEW YEAR’S DAY: Saturday expect a second potentially more potent round of strong storms. The SPC has issued an Enhanced risk (level 3/5) for all of Middle Tennessee and Slight risk (level 2/5) for Southern KY Saturday. All modes of severe weather are possible again through the afternoon and evening (1pm – 9pm). Stay weather alert!

Sunday: winter returns in a big way with cold & windy conditions. Rain will transition to snow showers during the afternoon and evening. Accumulation does not look likely except for grassy surfaces on the Plateau.
