1 killed, 2 injured, including toddler after rollover crash on 440

One person was killed and two people were injured, including a 3-year-old child,  in a rollover crash on Interstate 440 West Friday afternoon.

It happened on the interstate between Interstate 65 and Hillsboro Pike around 2:45 p.m.

Police said 30-year-old Ashley Atkins was traveling in her 2004 GMC Envoy west on 440 when the car left the roadway, went across the grass median, and rolled several times. The SUV ended up in the east lanes on 440 where it hit a Ford Edge.

Investigators said Atkins was ejected as the car rolled. She died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Officers said Atkins’ 3-year-old son, who they said was in a child restraint seat, and a 30-year-old passenger were seriously injured. The passengers in the Ford Edge were not injured.

Police said they have not determined why Atkins lost control of the car and there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol being involved.
