A man was found injured inside the trunk of a car Saturday morning on I-40, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

A TDOT help truck crew reported finding what they thought was an abandoned Honda Accord on I-40 at Papermill.

When they investigated, they noticed the windows were fogged up, but no one was inside. To their surprise, when they knocked on the trunk, someone knocked back.

Inside the car police found a man who said he was robbed at his apartment on Clinton Highway and forced into the trunk.

He said the car broke down and the suspects fled.

Police said the man had multiple injuries, including several head wounds.

No other information was immediately available on the suspects or how they got away.
