Memphis family escapes house fire thanks to family dog

A family of four is alive after escaping a house fire early Friday morning in Raleigh, thanks to the family dog.

According to the Memphis Fire Department, a dog in the house alerted the family around 4 a.m. that the house was on fire.  At the time of the fire, there were two adults and two children in the house on Westwood Cove off Raleigh Millington.

A firefighter was taken to the hospital for a back injury. He was treated and released.

Fire investigators say the home, two vehicles, and a boat were damaged. The total damages are estimated at more than $227,000.

Investigators say the fire started in the garage. The cause remains under investigation.
