An inmate is on the run after escaping custody and taking off in a Sumner Co. Sheriff’s Office vehicle early Saturday, officials say.
According to Sumner Co. Sheriff Chief Deputy Aaron Pickard, the man was being delivered to the Bedford County Jail at approximately 2:30 a.m. when he overpowered the corrections officer and stole the car.
Dreon Key, 21, of Nashville, is facing new charges for escape and theft of a vehicle in addition to pending charges of robbery and weapons violations.
Officers pursued Key to I-24 where Rutherford County deputies joined in on the chase, suspending it once he crossed into Davidson County. Key is now at-large.
The vehicle stolen is a white 2011 Chevrolet Impala with green and yellow sheriff’s office stripes.
Officials say the cruiser was found abandoned on a street in South Nashville on Saturday afternoon.
Anyone with information regarding this incident or Key’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office at (615)451-3838.
