A truck driver carrying construction equipment though downtown Nashville did not have the proper permit to be driving in the area when he crashed into the overpass on Interstate 40E near the Demonbreun Street exit.

His big load truck was wedged under the bridge for hours Friday and even into early Saturday morning. 

The crash shut down the I-65 ramp at I-40. It has since reopened. 

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, not only did the driver not have the proper endorsement on his license for the oversized truck, he failed to get a permit to drive through Middle Tennessee. He works for DG Equipment Movers out of Kentucky. 

TDOT said the driver is taking responsibility for the damage. There were no injuries. 

The driver was cited for the truck being overweight, overheight, overwidth, and not having the proper endorsement on license to operate the vehicle. 

Fixing the bridge will take several months and cost around 4 million dollars. A 12-foot section of the bridge has to be removed to fix the outer beam. 

TDOT plans to file a claim with the construction company’s insurance. 

The incident happened only hours before the Preds opened up a second round series at Bridgestone Arena with the Winnipeg Jets.
