The Tennessee Titans just got a whole lot better at wide receiver with the return of veteran Rishard Matthews.
Matthews was removed from the PUP List Sunday after missing virtually the entire summer and Training Camp with an injury.
To make room for Matthews on the roster the team placed receiver Michael Campanaro on Injured Reserve ending his season.
Matthews has been extremely productive since signing with the Titans in 2016, piling up 65 catches for 945 yards and 9 TD’s in 2016 and 53 receptions for 795 yards and 4 more TD’s last season.
The Titans offense struggled mightily in Pittsburgh Saturday without Matthews and star tight end Delanie Walker, and finished the first half with only 21 yards passing.
Head coach Mike Vrabel indicated last week that Matthews was close after he agreed to a one-year contract extension.
The Titans return to the practice field Monday and play their final preseason game Thursday at home against Minnesota.
It is extremely doubtful Matthews would be ready to go. His first action of the season will almost certainly come when the Titans open their 2018 campaign in Miami.
