The NHL trade deadline has come and gone and Preds GM David Poile made some moves in crunch-time.
Less than half an hour before the 3 p.m. ET deadline, Nashville traded Kevin Fiala for the Minnesota Wild’s Mikael Granlund. The 26-year-old will be an improvement to the Predators power play.
With 18 power-play points this season, he automatically becomes the Preds’ leader in power-play points. Previously, the Preds were lead by Ryan Johansen with 13.
Five minutes after the deadline, news broke that Nashville traded for Philadelphia Flyers winger Wayne Simmonds in return for Ryan Hartman and a fourth-round conditional pick in 2020.
If the Preds win the first round of the playoffs, the pick will become a third-rounder. At 6-foot-2-inches, Simmonds adds size and speed to the Predators lineup.
Nashville hosts the Oilers tonight at 7 p.m. for a special “Mike Fisher” night to honor the former Preds captain.
