The Nashville Predators announced on Tuesday they had signed defenseman Ryan Ellis to a new eight-year contract worth an average of $6.25 million per year.
Ellis only played half of a season last year, but still managed to register 23 assists, a career high for him.
“Ryan is a huge part of our team on and off the ice and we are happy to have his leadership remain in our locker room for the foreseeable future,” Predators General Manager David Poile said in a news release.
The signing only solidifies what most would call the best defensive corps in the league.
Ellis, just 27, is now signed through the 2026-2027 season. Ellis’ defensive teammates Mattias Ekholm and PK Subban are each signed through the 2021-2022 season. Team Captain Roman Josi will need a new deal in 2020.
The Predators report for training camp on September 13. Their first regular season game is on the road against the New York Rangers on October 4.
