LSU has suspended men’s basketball head coach Will Wade indefinitely.

The suspension comes after allegations surfaced earlier this week about a wiretap where Wade was heard discussing an offer for a recruit.

Tony Benford will step in as the interim head coach when the Tigers host Vanderbilt on Saturday for their regular-season finale.

The two SEC teams from the state of Tennessee have a vested interest in that matchup.

The Commodores are still in search of their first SEC win, and an LSU loss (with a Tennessee win over Auburn) would give the Vols an outright SEC regular-season championship.

In a joint statement from LSU President and Chancellor F. King Alexander and Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva states, “Recent media reports regarding Coach Will Wade are without question concerning to all of us. As such, we and university officials have taken deliberate and purposeful steps to fairly assess and adequately address this situation.”
