NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A baking hobby turned into a business that a Nashville woman says fill her heart with joy.

Chess, chocolate chess, lemon chess, pecan chess, coconut chess, sweet potato pies, pumpkin pies, chocolate fudge pies, pumpkin pies, pecan pies… You name it, Geraldine Bell bakes it.

She says it’s a love she’s done for 20 years.

“I’m also a certified nurse technician. Been nursing 20 years, and been doing this 20 years. I finally was selling them at my nursing job a long time ago, and my friend said these are really good pies, you should start selling them!”

So Geraldine did, and Geraldine’s Greatest Chess Pies was born.

She started selling what she calls the “southern pies” at nursing homes and beauty salons.

“They really do enjoy my pies, and Ii enjoy baking them. I bake it from my heart; I really do. It’s a heart thing.”

She now spends her weekends at farmers markets across Middle Tennessee.

Her chess pies are outmatched only by her big personality and infectious smile. She says one of her favorite aspects of her business is her customers.

“I just love people. I love to see people smile, and I love to encourage people. I love to pray for people. I love to sell my pies to people.”

You can find Geraldine and her Greatest Chess pies at farmers markets all over the area, including the Nashville and Franklin farmers markets.
