NFL Draft a dream come true for Nashville athlete

NFL Draft

Lives are about to change and dreams will come true when players are drafted next week.

For one local athlete, the reality of the NFL Draft is bigger than his dreams ever were.

Former Vanderbilt defensive back JoeJuan Williams has always wanted to play in the NFL, but the idea of getting drafted in his backyard and possibly to the hometown team – his favorite team – is unbelievable.

“It’s definitely special even having the opportunity to play for the hometown team,” said JoeJuan Willams. “If you look at my old tweets, every Sunday you hear me saying “Titan up,” that’s always been my favorite team since I was five.”

Some of his favorite players were Titans.

“Ever since I fell in love with this game, I remember sitting down with my mom and brother watching games. From Eddie George to Steve Mcnair, Chris Johnson all those guys that made a high impact for the Titans over the years, that’s something that’s definitely special just the opportunity to play for them.”

Even though sporting the two-toned blue would be a dream come true for Williams, he said he told the Titans, “don’t draft me because I’m an in-state guy, draft me because I’m the best player.”

From growing up in Nashville to opting to stay for college, Williams is all-in on representing the Music City.

So next week when his two loves – football and Nashville – come together, it’s a dream come true.

“I’ve been playing football in Nashville since I was five, went to Vandy, played for Vandy here in Nashville, put on for my city and then now. I mean I would love to get picked here in Nashville so it’s definitely something special, it’s definitely a dream,” he said.

Williams has met with the Titans and attended their local Pro Day last week. Right now, he’s projected as a day-two pick.
