Woman critically injured after being hit, dragged by MTA bus

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A woman was critically injured when she was hit by a bus outside the downtown Nashville bus terminal early Friday morning.

The Music City Central terminal is located at 400 Charlotte Avenue. The accident happened around 6:40 a.m.

According to police, the woman, 64-year-old Vicki Pillow, had just gotten off the bus and stepped into its path as she attempted to cross Fifth Avenue from east to west.

She was crossing the street on at a “Don’t Walk” signal, police said. The bus, at that time, was moving to cross Charlotte Avenue with a green light, striking Pillow and dragging her a short distance before it stopped.

Witnesses estimate the woman was dragged as many as 50 yards.

Metro police told News 2 the victim is an employee of the State of Tennessee and regularly rides the bus to work.

She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. She has improved to stable condition and is expected to survive, according to Metro police.

Fifth Avenue from Deaderick to Gay Streets are closed as the investigation continues.

Metro police’s fatal team has been called in to investigate the scene.
