NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – We know Nashville is in high demand, but Donelson was recently ranked as one of the hottest zip codes in the country.

Realtor.com says Donelson is No. 15 for people looking at and buying homes; sandwiched between Austin, Texas and San Jose, California.

The number, according to the website, is being driven by millennials who are first-time home buyers.

Stephanie Crawford with Broker’s Cooperative agrees.

“We’re seeing a lot of first time buyers and a lot of millennials,” said Crawford. “The market in Donelson can be more competitive than it is in a lot of other areas.”

City officials believe that rank will only rise with plans for a Downtown Donelson.

In 2009, a Urban-Design Overlay was approved to create Downtown Donelson, a transit-oriented mixed-use development. Councilman Jeff Syracuse is working to make the plans a reality.

“I see development potential… but also we want to keep that warm-hearted, village-type of atmosphere,” he told News 2.

A cornerstone of the Downtown plan is Donelson Plaza. The massive building has new owners, who Syracuse says, are on board with plans for a mixed-use development.

However, the heart of Downtown Donelson is the Music City Star. The commuter train has stops in Mt. Juliet and Downtown Nashville but Syracuse hopes with the development of Donelson, there will be more stops and riders.

“The future is so bright,” he said. “Not just for Donelson or Nashville but of regional importance.”

There is already funding in place for a new library and sidewalks for Downtown Donelson.
