According to the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, a spill gate on Lake Dunlap, a reservoir on the Guadalupe River near the town of New Braunfels, failed on May 14 just before 8 a.m.
The dam is part of Lake Dunlap, which stores 5,900 acre-feet of water. Officials say it is now in the process of draining due to the dam collapse.
While water appeared to be flowing normally just before the incident, the middle section of the dam suddenly topples over.
