Titans host Texans in home opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - The Tennessee Titans open their home season with the Houston Texans Sunday but they do it facing massive injury problems.

The Titans will likely be without their top three offensive tackles as they prepare for Houston stars JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clooney. Jack Conklin is still recovering from a torn ACL and Pro Bowl tackle Taylor Lewan has already been ruled out with a concussion.

The Titans were dealt another blow this week when Dennis Kelly went down with an illness that has put his status in jeopardy.  Kevin Pamphile is expected to start at left tackle and Tyler Marz who was just elevated from the practice squad could start on the right side.

That is not the kind of news a team with a questionable quarterback needs.  Marcus Mariota injured his right elbow in Miami and after practicing fully Wednesday he was limited on Thursday and Friday.  Head coach Mike Vrabel also suggested Mariota and Blaine Gabbert will both play in the game.

The Texans are also dealing with injuries on the offensive line and the secondary where they lost cornerback Kevin Johnson last week at New England.

The Texans lost to the Patriots 27-20, The Titans lost at Miami by the same score making this a game that will put one of these two teams in a major hole to start the season.

Look for the Titans to try to establish the right against a Texans defense that has surrendered 100 yards in 7 straight games.
While Dion Lewis sparkles last week fro Tennessee Derrick Henry said this week he was not happy with his level play and is looking for a bounce back game against Houston.

Sunday will test a secondary the Titans have invested massively in with star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and speedy Will Fuller.  Fuller has been battling a hamstring injury but has three TD receptions in three games against the Titans.

Kickoff is noon central at Nissan Stadium.
