This week’s rain is pushing water levels high in streams and rivers.
You may think water levels should be falling now that rainfall has ended.
But runoff and water management techniques mean that the Cumberland River will continue rising for the next couple of days.
Action stage for the Cumberland at the Nashville waterfront is 30 feet. It will reach that stage on Thursday. Action stage means some of the water will likely need to be diverted, or some other mitigation action will be needed.
Flood Stage is where a river has risen to the point where it could be hazardous to people and property nearby.
The South Fork Little River at Hopkinsville, the Cumberland River at Clarksville, the Red River near Port Royal are all near flood state and we will watch them carefully in the coming days.
