Violent crimes against Nashville juveniles up in 2018

Violent crimes committed against Nashville teens are up 16 percent so far in 2018.   

There have been 390 violent crimes committed against youth, age 17 and under, compared to 337 crimes in the same time period in 2017.    

The types of violent crimes that have increased include forcible rape, which is up 40 percent. Robbery is up 27 percent, aggravated assault is up 6 percent, and sexual assault is up 37 percent.   

Through May 12, five juveniles have been killed in 2018. Four were killed during the same time period last year.  

The Madison Precinct has seen the biggest percentage increase in violent crimes committed against juveniles.   

These crimes are up 79 percent year-to-date.  

In terms of real numbers, in the Madison Precinct alone, 68 violent crimes have been committed against children so far this year, compared to 38 in the same time period in 2017.
