The mother of a Portland teen who was killed in a crash spoke at a parole hearing for the woman who caused the crash that killed her son.
Nick Townsend died in a head-on collision on Highway 52 back in May of 2015.
Laura Beasley was charged in his death and pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide with driver intoxication, two counts of vehicular assault and driving under the influence.
She is currently serving a 16-year sentence and appeared for her first parole hearing last week after serving three years and nine months.
Four votes are required to grant or deny parole. One member of the board voted stating that he was declining parole based on the seriousness of the crime. Other board members will also hear the hearing in the coming weeks and will put forward their recommendation. The final decision will come after that.
If Beasley is not granted parole, she will be eligible for a second parole hearing in February 2021.
