Vanilla Ice arrested on burglary, grand theft charges in Florida

LANTANA, Fla. (WFLA) – Singer Robert Van Winkle, who is also known as Vanilla Ice, was arrested on charges of grand theft and burglary in connection with a theft from a Florida residence.

The Lantana Police Department said it investigated a residential burglary which occurred sometime during December 2014 and February 2015.

The burglary occurred in the 100 block of N. Atlantic Drive. During the burglary incident, numerous items of furniture, pool heater, bicycles and other items were removed from the residence which is currently in the process of foreclosure, according to Lantana Police.

During the investigation, police determined that Robert Matthew Van Winkle played a role in the burglary and theft.

Police say Van Winkle is currently renovating the residence adjacent to the property in which the items were stolen.

A search warrant was obtained and executed in unincorporated Palm Beach County in which several of the stolen items were recovered at a residence under the care and control of Robert Van Winkle.

The property was identified by the victim at that location and returned to the rightful owner, according to police.

Robert Matthew Van Winkle voluntary met with detectives at the Lantana Police Department to provide a sworn statement.

Based on the evidence collected, witness statements and corroborating statements, Van Winkle was taken into custody and charged with burglary residence and grand theft.

Van Winkle stars in the “Vanilla Ice Project, a reality home improvement show on the DIY network.
