Two months after his death, father’s killer still on the loose

News

Months removed from a murder in North Nashville, a victim’s family anxiously awaits answers, with a gunman still on the loose.

The crime scene tape is long gone at North 12th and Jefferson Street, but the pain for Latonya Thomas is fresh.

“All he wanted, was his kids to be safe, he didn’t have to lose his life behind all this,” she said.

Just two months ago, 25-year-old Marquice Miles arrived to pick up his children, from his ex-girlfriend.

She was with Capius Maclin Jr. at the time, a convicted sex offender, who was also her boyfriend.

“[Marquice] and the sex offender got into a fight,” Latonya explained. “After the fight, a second man exited the vehicle and [shot] him twice in the chest.”

Maclin and the unknown gunman fled. But Maclin would turn himself in days later, just before a candlelight vigil for Marquice.

Latonya met News 2, during a community discussion on gun violence Wednesday afternoon.

Simultaneously across town, authorities investigated a violent robbery outside of Mas Tacos

Hours later, at Centennial Park, dozens gathered for a vigil, remembering the four people shot and killed in an Antioch Waffle House.

This spike in violence has Latonya concerned.

“I mean we have to put an end to it. We have to,” she said. “I mean it’s senseless, you know it’s got to stop.”

Metro police say they have a very active investigation that continues, and they are following strong leads in the case.
