Tree falls on truck at Great Smoky national park; Man killed

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) – One person is dead after an accident in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The park service says rangers responded at 11:20 p.m. Thursday to the Spur, the road that connects Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge through the park.

Authorities say appeared a tree fell on a 2005 Ford truck. The driver was killed.

While his name has not been released, he is identified as a 59-year-old man from Georgia. There were no other passengers inside.

The Gatlinburg Police Department is providing assistance with the investigation.
