There are plenty of new faces on the Tennessee Titans training camp roster, and that includes coaches. Safety Michael Griffin spent nine years in Nashville and was well known in the community. Just this past May he decided to sign a one year contract with the Titans in order to retire with the team.
Now a few months later, you can catch him on the practice field at St. Thomas Sports Park. The 33-year-old is now a coaching intern with the Titans. He’s spent the past few days working with the players and by the looks of it, he’s gaining their respect quickly.
Defensive Back Tye Smith said, “From the standpoint of him actually playing the defensive backs position, it’s good to have his knowledge, just knowledge for the game and everything. Its always like a natural respect for any guy that has played in the league, especially for multiple years.”
While Griffin tries to pass along his football knowledge, he’s also picking up the coaching tips from his mentors.
Dean Pees said, “He’s a seasoned vet. he adds a lot of experience there and I think its good for the guys to be able to sit and talk to him. From his perspective, maybe how he prepared for practice, things that he might have done to make himself better. That’s great, especially for all those young guys.”
Titans wide receiver Nate Washington also went for a coaching intern position but did not get it this time around.
