The attorney for the mother of Waffle House shooting victim Akilah DaSilva tells News 2 that the lawsuit between his client and the accused shooter and his father has been settled out of court.
DaSilva died in the Waffle House mass shooting on April 22, 2018.
DaSilva’s mom, Shaundelle Brooks, filed the lawsuit against both Travis and Jeffrey Reinking in Nashville Circuit Court last May.
The family’s attorney, Daniel Horwitz, would not confirm the details of the settlement but said in a statement:
“The DaSilva family is very pleased with this outcome—the first known settlements involving someone who illegally transferred a firearm used in a mass shooting—and they are glad to have helped bring about Jeffrey Reinking’s pending criminal prosecution through their civil lawsuits against him. They will now focus their attention on Jeffrey Reinking’s criminal proceedings and on what has been their top priorities from day one: Ensuring that Jeffrey Reinking is held fully accountable for his criminal misconduct and honoring Akilah’s beloved memory through the Akilah DaSilva Foundation.”
