According to a report from GoVols247, the Vols are expected to name Georgia’s Jim Chaney the new offensive coordinator.
Chaney previously coached at Tennessee for four years under Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley. He served as an offensive coordinator and a quarterbacks coach while with the Vols.
The search for Tennessee’s new offensive coordinator began two days after the season-ending loss to Vanderbilt when Tyson Helton left to become the new head coach at Western Kentucky.
Kirby Smart hired Chaney when he took the Georgia job in 2016. With Chaney calling the plays, the Bulldogs averaged 35 points per game and finished in the top 20 in scoring in 2017. This past season, the Dawgs averaged 38 points per game and finished second in scoring behind Alabama. Tennessee’s offense averaged 17 points per game in 2018.
According to the report, an official announcement could come as soon as Wednesday.
