The incident happened Saturday afternoon in Parkway Village in the 2900 block of Clearbrook Street.

Memphis Police say a 7-year-old boy shot his brother, who investigators say is 9 or 10-year-old, by accident. The incident was reported just before 3:00 p.m.

The injured child was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, where he later died.

Police were on scene for hours collecting evidence as neighbors looked on.

Residents who have lived in the area for years didn’t want to go on camera, but tell Local 24 News the people who lived inside the home where the shooting happened were new to the area.

MPD tells us they are investigating how two kids under the age of 11 could have gotten hold of a firearm.
