Only on News 2: Mother of accused Lawrenceburg rapist urges her son to turn himself in

Tennessee News

A Lawrenceburg man on the TBI’s Most Wanted list is still at large.

Simon Porter is accused of raping his 16-month-old son. Investigators have been searching for him since earlier this week.

According to the assistant chief of the Lawrenceburg Police Department, the reward for his arrest has also jumped from $2,500 to $3,500 after a child advocacy group, The Demand Project, got wind of the story and kicked another $1,000.

Law officers think Porter might still be in the area hiding out and if he is watching TV, they want him to hear a special message from his Mom.

Barbara Wright, the suspect’s mom, implored her firstborn son to surrender.

“Son please bring yourself in. I love you so much son, I don’t want you to get hurt. I don’t want nothing to happen to you.  Do the right thing, you know you didn’t do this, please bring yourself in, prove to them you are innocent.”

Mrs. Wright says her son is innocent. She urges him to surrender and clear his name.

“Son, it’s going to be ok, just come in, and bring yourself in, they won’t do anything to you if you bring yourself in.”

When asked if her son is dangerous, Wright said ” No, he’s not dangerous. He don’t have no guns, no knives.”
