Dog dies in East Tennessee house fire that left home a total loss

BLOUNT COUNTY (WATE) - A dog has died in a house fire on Shelby Drive in Blount County, according to Blount County Fire Department.

The fire happened on the 200 block of Shelby Drive just after 12:30 p.m.

The fire started in the basement and quickly spread to the attic.

As firefighters were fighting the house fire, the home collapsed. No firefighters were injured.

The family was not home at the time of the fire.

Maryville Fire Department, Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and Alcoa Fire Department provided mutual aid.

Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the family.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
