COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department says it’s investigating a report of a juvenile being attacked by a clown in Summitville, Tennessee.

According to a release, the sheriff’s department received a call Monday night concerning someone dressed in a red hooded sweatshirt and clown mask with green hair around 9 p.m. on Volunteer Road.

Hunter Tullos reported to deputies that he swung at the clown and was cut by what he said was a knife.

“Yeah, I thought I was going to die,” the 15-year-old told News 2. “I was walking and heard something coming up behind me and I swung on it. I cut my hand on the knife they had in their hand.”

Tullos continued, “I fell down on the ground checking out my hand and they were standing over me. I looked up and said, ‘Oh, God. I got to run.’”

Deputies responded to the area and conducted a search for the clown, but it was not found.

The sheriff’s department says it is continuing to investigate the report.

“People in Tennessee carry guns and somebody jumping out and scaring someone is subject to get shot,” Coffee County Sheriff Steve Graves said.

Graves also noted if a person is found to be scaring or hurting people, they will be arrested.

“Everyone should avoid wearing any type of mask or dressing up like a clown,” he said.

Since Monday’s clown sighting, residents News 2 spoke with said they are afraid to walk around in their own neighborhood.

“We’re not walking around by ourselves anymore. We are walking in groups,” Tullos’ friend Kane Johnson said.

There are several “Klown” Facebook pages and the teens said they have been threatened for going to police.

“One sent me a friend request and then texted me saying I was next,” Johnson told News 2.

Coffee County investigators say they haven’t proven or disproven this clown attack actually happened, but they are fully investigating.

Other states have also reported unusual clown sightings in recent weeks.
