NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Superstars Taylor Swift and Kenny Chesney are donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to both the Sevier County wildfire victims and relief efforts across the county.
Swift is donating $100,000 to benefit Dolly Parton’s upcoming telethon to raise funds for the victims.
The telethon, “Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit for the My People Fund,” will be broadcast on Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m. on News 2.
In addition to Swift’s donation, The Academy of Country Music and ACM Lifting Lives are also donating $100,000 to the cause.
The money raised during the telethon will go to Parton’s My People Fund, which she recently started as an effort to help families affected by the deadly wildfire.
The fund will provide $1,000 a month for six months to Sevier County residents whose homes are inhabitable or destroyed for six months.PHOTOS: Wildfires in East Tennessee
Chesney is joining forces with the Country Music Association to donate $500,000 for relief efforts, a good portion of which will go to the My People Fund.
“Growing up in East Tennessee, the only thing greater than the beauty of the region is the heart of the people who live there,” said Chesney. “It is devastating to think of what’s been lost in terms of the fire, but overwhelming for the families facing rebuilding their lives – in many cases – from scratch. I’m appreciative that CMA shares my hope that these families can feel our love at a time of such tragedy.”
Fourteen people were killed in the devastating wildfire that burned thousands of acres and injured more than 130 others.
Two juveniles have since been arrested and charged for their role in starting the wildfire.Click here for complete coverage of the Sevier County wildfire.
