Suspected gunman arrested for attempted murder 2 years ago


It took almost two years but police believe they now have the gunman who shot a man in the parking lot of McDonald’s near Sylvan Park. 

Terrance D. Newsome is under arrest for attempted criminal homicide and especially aggravated robbery. 

According to the arrest warrant. Newsome is accused of shooting Leandro Ocampo-gil on May 15, 2017, 

Police say Newsome first asked the victim for money as he was ordering food. But  Ocampo-Gil indicated he did not speak English.  After eating lunch, he left the restaurant and got in his truck, Police say Newsome approached him again asking for money. Ocampo-Gil told him no again. 

That’s when police say Newsome shot the victim three times: once in the chest, collapsing his right lung, once in the knee and again in his left wrist. 

Newsome was identified through surveillance video.
