State Police try to wake up sleeping drivers on I-40 after accidents stalled traffic for 10 hours

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — In a scene you have to see to believe, Arkansas State Police used sirens and old-fashioned door knocking to try and wake drivers sleeping inside their vehicles on I-40 early Thursday.

Some drivers reported sitting in traffic for ten hours following various accidents late Wednesday.  So what to do when you’re not moving on the road?  Sleep, apparently.

Despite the road being clear, some traffic wasn’t moving.

“WB Traffic is slow to recover due to recurring accidents, ice formations, and vehicle operators that simply went to sleep while in the queue at some point,” Arkansas DOT tweeted.

Reporter Stephanie Sharp was among those who sat in extended traffic on 40. It took her 9 hours to get from Brinkley to Little Rock.
