Sheriff says letter sent to Baby Joe’s grandparents written by boy’s father

Sheriff Jeff Bledsoe says a letter sent to missing Joe Clyde Daniels’ grandparents last week was written by the boy’s father who is accused of murdering his son.

The letter was sent to the missing boy’s grandparents last Wednesday and claimed Baby Joe is still alive. Joseph Daniels also indicated he had been talking to his wife, Krystal Daniels, from a state mental health facility where he is being treated.

Forensic scientists with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation analyzed the letter for DNA.

A copy of the letter has not been released.

Sheriff Bledsoe previously called the letter a hoax and said it would not change the investigation.

According to one of Joseph Daniels’ lawyers, he ended the letter by writing his initials “JD” but his parents misread it as “JJ”, causing them to think the letter was anonymous.

News 2 spoke to Baby Joe’s grandfather who said he has not asked his son about the letter yet.

He said he still believes there is a possibility that Baby Joe is still alive.

Investigators said Joseph Daniels admitted to killing his son after initially reporting the five-year-old had run off in April. He and his wife remain jailed in connection with the case.

Baby Joe’s remains have not been found. Another search is planned for later this fall.
