Sheriff: DeKalb County driver snorted drug, passed out with car in drive

News

A man accused of snorting klonopin and passing out with his foot on the brake and the car in drive earlier this week in DeKalb County had a child in the passenger seat at the time, investigators say.

Ralph Edward McIntyre, 29, was charged with DUI and child abuse/neglect.

Deputies with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office were called Monday to West Main Street in Alexandria for a report of a man passed out in a vehicle.

When a deputy arrived on the scene, he said he found McIntyre, the driver, passed out with his foot on the brake and his vehicle in gear.

There was a 10-month-old child in the passenger seat, the Sheriff’s Office said.

After McIntyre was awakened, deputies said he admitted to snorting klonopin, a medication used to treat seizures, panic disorder and anxiety.

McIntyre was being held on a $7,500 bond. He is expected in court on Feb. 14.
