Sheriff: 10-year-old girl shot by brother dies from injuries

A 10-year-old girl who was shot in the head by her twin brother in Lawrence County Sunday has died from her injuries. 

According to Lawrence County Sheriff John Myers, the shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the parking lot of a Dollar Store in St. Joseph, Tennessee. 

The twins were in a truck when Kaliegh Shea Pennington, of Loretto, was accidentally shot in the head by her twin brother, according to Myers. 

The sheriff said the firearm was in the truck and the boy got ahold of it. 

Kaliegh was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died early Monday morning.  

Police are investigating whether another adult was in the car. 

No charges have been filed. 

Kaliegh attended South Lawrence Elementary School. Extra counselors and school system leaders are at the school on Monday.
