NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Many Middle Tennessee residents want to protect their homes, and one way to do that is to add a security system.
Rick Durham of Diversified Electronic Services installs security systems for a living and told News 2 that these days a lot of people want surveillance cameras.
But with hundreds to choose from, how do you know which one is right for you and your family?
“Price is number one in most people’s eyes, but you’re also looking for the picture image–if it’s nice and clear and hi-def, and storage is another one, and is it easy to use?” explained Durham.
He said you can get a quality camera system on the lower end for around $400, but that doesn’t include installation.
That price depends on the square footage of your home and the number of cameras you want installed.
Before Durham decides where to set up cameras in a home, he walks around each house.
He tries to make sure every angle is covered.
“I’m looking at different shots that we can get on the camera; what a burglar might do, or a way they might come in and get into the property, and I’m always looking out to see the best way to capture that view,” he explained.
With most camera systems, the clarity is pretty unbelievable; however, News 2 wants to point out this is not an alarm system, but it can be used in addition to one.
“If you got an alarm system, the police have to respond,” said Durham.
Then if your home is burglarized and you also have surveillance cameras, authorities can use that video as evidence.
But before you have a security system installed, it’s smart to shop around not only for the system you think will work best for your family, you also want to make sure the person who installs it is licensed with the state of Tennessee.
Durham told News 2 that most surveillance systems will store 30 days of recordings and that you can always upgrade your system down the road.News 2 is committed to tracking crime across Middle Tennessee. Visit wkrn.com/crimetracker for more.
