NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police say the driver of a pickup truck that ran off Ellington Parkway into a tree line appears to have died from a gunshot wound.

Staff at the medical examiner’s office discovered the gunshot during a detailed examination of Ryan Trent’s body Wednesday morning.

Police previously thought Trent died from injuries sustained in the single-vehicle crash.

A passerby noticed the crashed Chevrolet pickup truck around 2:45 a.m. and called 911.

Trent died at the scene.

Detectives are now working to learn more about Trent, including where he may have been early Wednesday morning. Investigators would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen his truck run off the road.

Anyone with information is urged to call 615-862-7525 or Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
