A Nashville mother is charged with child neglect after Metro police said she left her child in her car for more than an hour Friday night.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. at the Ross on Charlotte Pike in West Nashville.

Metro police said 20-year-old Kateria Williams went into the store and left her 2-year-old son in the car.

The car was left running with the air conditioning on but when officers found the toddler, his temperature had dropped to 96 degrees and he was soiled with urine, according to an arrest warrant.

An ambulance was called to the scene before Williams returned and an announcement was made over the loudspeaker in the store, but she reportedly told police she did not hear it.

Surveillance video shows Williams return to the car at least once to get another child out of the car and leaving the 2-year-old inside, according to police.

The child was taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where he was released to his grandmother.

Williams was booked into the Metro jail and charged with child neglect. She has since been released.
