Metro police have arrested a 45-year-old man suspected of crashing into parked cars, abandoning his bloody vehicle on the side of a busy road and chasing a woman through the parking lot of a Nashville apartment complex.
Jay Lennox, 45, was booked Monday night into the Metro jail on multiple charges including assault on an officer, evading arrest and disorderly conduct.
Police responded around 6 a.m. Monday to the area of Traemoor Village Drive and Charlotte Pike regarding possible gunshots fired and a suspicious person running around a neighborhood banging on doors and windows.
While enroute to the call, an officer said he was traveling on Charlotte Pike near Old Hickory Boulevard and observed a vehicle speeding down the road, weaving in and out of traffic and crossing over the yellow lines.
The vehicle then reportedly drove into the officer’s lane, forcing him off the road.
The officer was eventually able to locate the vehicle abandoned on the side of Charlotte Pike with a door open and a large amount of blood visible inside, investigators said.
The officer then reported hearing a loud scream or whistle coming from an apartment complex nearby and said he saw Lennox walking away from the complex covered in blood and carrying a briefcase, while appearing to be under the influence of an intoxicant.
When confronted by the officer, Lennox reportedly ran onto Charlotte Pike and attempted to throw himself in front of a vehicle, causing drivers to swerve out of the way.
The officer tried to take Lennox into custody, but said he started swinging at him, so he used a taser to get the suspect to the ground.
During his arrest, police said Lennox spit in the officer’s face and hit him in the face and neck.
Lennox was finally placed in handcuffs and his legs were restrainted, as he was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Upon further investigation, police determined Lennox was the suspected driver accused of hitting two cars, running into the Dollar General Store on Old Hickory Boulevard near Charlotte Pike and then chasing a woman through the parking lot of an apartment complex near Old Charlotte Pike.
Lennox was also charged with resisting arrest and public intoxication.
No further details were immediately released.
