NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) - Metro police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in North Nashville Wednesday morning.
Officers were called to the 1600 block of 16th Avenue North just before 1 a.m.
Metro police identified the victim as 40-year-old Antonio Batts.
He was reportedly visiting with a friend when a gunman approached, fired several shots and ran away.
Batts, who was shot multiple times, went to a nearby home after the shooting for help.
He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Batts, a convicted felon with a lengthy arrest history, was taken into custody in July 2014 in relation to violent attacks on three persons, two of whom were shot.
He was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2016 and received a six-year sentence.
Metro detectives will be examining Batts’ background to determine whether it is connected to his murder.
No suspect description or additional information was immediately released.
The investigation is ongoing.
