Police: Madison Mapco burglarized by 13-year-old

News

A 13-year-old boy was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after Metro police say he burglarized a Madison gas station.

It happened around 2 a.m. at the Mapco located at 1201 Gallatin Pike South.

Metro police said officers were called to the store when the burglary alarm went off and found the front glass shattered by a rock.

An alert citizen called police after noticing a young teen hanging around outside the nearby Planet Fitness.

Officers detained the teen for questioning while investigators reviewed security footage from the Mapco.

Detectives determined the detained teen matched the description of the suspect seen on surveillance footage and items stolen from the store were found in his possession, according to police.

The teen reportedly stole cigarettes, a lighter and cigars.

He is expected to be charged with burglary in juvenile court.

No additonal information was released.
