Police investigating North Nashville shooting involving bounty hunter

News

Police are investigating after a shooting in North Nashville Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to the call around 2:30 p.m. at the Popeyes on Jefferson Street and 9th Avenue North.

Officers said 34-year-old bounty hunter Dejuan Pittman was in the parking lot to detain 22-year-old Richard Anthony Walker III on two outstanding failure to appear warrants. Walker was a passenger in a car driven by Dandre Riley.

According to police, the bounty hunters tried to block the car in. Riley accelerated forward, slamming into the bounty hunter’s car and a parked car.

Police said Pittman fired a shot, hitting Riley in the neck.

Riley was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Police said he was uncooperative, gave detectives false information, and said he didn’t want to prosecute for the shooting.

Walker III was arrested on the outstanding failure to appear warrants.

Riley was booked on a warrant for the Sept. 29 theft of the car he was driving.
