Detectives working to identify gunman suspected in fatal shooting


NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Metro police are working to identify the gunman who fatally wounded a 20-year-old man in North Nashville Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of 25th Avenue North.

Metro police identified the victim as 20-year-old Aquan Avant.

He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Witnesses told Metro police Avant and three acquaintances were standing outside a residence when the gunman approached them on foot and opened fire, striking Avant.

The suspect, who fled on foot, is described as a young black man with short hair wearing a black tracksuit.
