A robbery suspect was shot Monday night in South Nashville when the victim’s husband fired several shots at the man as she was being robbed.
The robbery happened around 9:30 p.m. at the Baker Station Apartments on Bakertown Road.
Metro police said a 25-year-old woman was walking to her apartment around 9:30 p.m. when 19-year-old Jordan Ponce allegedly ran up behind her and grabbed her purse. Police said the woman resisted and Ponce began bashing her head against the wall of the building as she screamed.
According to a release, the woman’s 29-year-old husband heard the screams and came out of the apartment. Ponce ran and the husband jumped over a railing and landed on top of him, a fight ensued. The release says Ponce got up and ran to the parking lot where they got into a second fight. Ponce hit the husband in the head and got up. The husband drew his gun and fired.
Ponce was shot once in the abdomen before he fled the area in a silver Acura and was soon dropped off at TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center, according to Metro police. His injuries are said to be serious.
The 25-year-old woman was treated at Summit Medical Center for cuts and bruises on her head.
Police said the silver Acura was stolen 90 minutes before the attempted robbery from an apartment complex on Linbar Drive. It was recovered at 1:50 a.m. from an apartment complex on Piccadilly Row.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol told News 2 an off-duty trooper called Metro police to report the incident.
The shooting remains under investigation.
