NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police say a mother and father have been charged with aggravated child neglect after leaving a loaded gun under the couch cushion where their 1-year-old son lay sleeping.
According to arrest warrants, detectives served a narcotics search warrant at the home of 37-year-old Debbie Golden and her husband 46-year-old Willie Smith on Wednesday afternoon.
During the search, they discovered a loaded 9 mm pistol underneath the cushion where the infant was sleeping. The gun was reportedly stolen.
Police say a stolen 12-gauge shotgun was also found in the child’s room.
Court documents state officers also found marijuana and cocaine in the home and allege the two were selling the it.
Both Golden and Smith face multiple charges including aggravated child neglect, felony drug possession, and theft of property.
Smith’s bond was set at $75,000 and Golden’s was set at $59,000. Both are due in Davidson County Criminal Court on Friday.
