A Clarksville man who was late for work is in even more hot water after trying to make up a robbery as his excuse.

According to ClarksvilleNow, 21-year-old Damien Gonzales walked into a police precinct on Oct. 11 around 8:40 a.m. to report that he was robbed outside his home at 6:30 a.m. that morning.

Police said he told them he started his car to warm the engine when he was confronted by a man who demanded his car.

The 21-year-old told police that when he refused, the man allegedly cut him with a blade on the side of his abdomen. He said he punched the man, causing him to flee.

Detectives noticed the inconsistencies with his story. When he was asked for more details, he admitted he made the story up to cover for being late to work.

Gonzales was charged with making a false report. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail and his bail was set at $1,000.
