Officials: Sailor shot at Virginia naval base; Shooter killed

Officials say a shooter is dead after a female sailor was injured in a shooting Friday morning Naval Air Station Oceana.

Officials with Navy Region Mid-Atlantic said in a news release a female sailor was shot during an isolated domestic incident in the parking lot of Strike Fighter Squadron 37 (VFA-37), Hanger 145, around 6:45 a.m.

She was taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The shooter, a male sailor, was shot and killed by security officers, officials said.

The base was placed on lockdown following the incident, but that was lifted at 7:40 a.m. The shooting remains under investigation.
