A city of Spencer employee killed in a trench collapse Tuesday while on the job in Van Buren County has been identified.
Mickey Fisher responded to a call from the Van Buren County Highway Department about a water leak on a rural country road and while on site, there was a trench collapse, the city said in a statement.
Rescue efforts involved agencies from multiple counties and went on for several hours.
Fisher’s body was eventually recovered, the city said.
His fellow employees referred to Fisher as “an outstanding worker” and said he was “headed to the water leak to serve the citizens of his community.”
A spokesperson for the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration, known as TOSHA, said the agency is investigating the incident.
